NOT YET CLEANED
DRAIN NEAR HUIRAU ROAD RATEPAYER’S PROTEST WORK TO BE PUT IN HAND At Thursday’s meeting of the Hau-raki-United Drainage (Board, Mr J. H. Murray wrote protesting that the drain between his boundary and the Huirau road had not yet been cleaned The letter read as under: —
“I wrote you a month ago advising you that the drain between my boundary and the Huirau road had not been cleaned and as yet I have had no acknowledgment of same. This part of the drain has not been done even yet. ' “When the river is in flood this drain is my only outlet so that in the event of a flood I will have no drainage.
“Your board promised a ‘good outlet’ at Dailey’s outlet when we endeavoured to have the top of the Baker-Madgwick drain closed against flooding from that quarter. “ I would also .point out that your board would not open ten chains in front of Mr H. R. Baker’s property in 1930 but eventually gave £lO on a £ for £ basis for this work and I found the balance. This drain is at present carrying the water from the BakerMadgwick drain.” The chairman, Mr C. K. Fox, stated that he thought that the drain should be cleaned. The work would not be very expensive and there would be a definite advantage in the drainage. Mr R. E. Tye agreed with the chairman and it was resolved that the drain be cleaned as soon as arrangements could be made.
