SINGER VISITS PAEROA ST. PAUL’S VICARAGE FUND ENJOYABLE HELD (From the Ohinemuri Gazette of June 17, 1902.)' The chairman of the County Council received word yesterday from the Waihi Borough Council to the effect that there was no need for a conference until the matter of the gold duty was settled and that the conference Which was 1 • to be held to-day would! not take place. We are informed that the County Council is at a losis to know what the conference was about. Miss Birdie Butler, the talented soprano of Auckland, is' at present on a visit to Paeroa, and she will sing at the Methodist Church on Sunday night. Miss Butler is well known throughout the Auckland province as one of its leading soloists and we are sure that there are many who will be pleased to have the opportunity of hearing her in sacred song. The third social held for the purpose of assisting St. Paul’s Vicarage Fund took place last——evening at the Wharf Street hall and was well attended. This function was as highly successful and enjoyable as the previous ones. The music was supplied by the local trio and was much appreciated by the dancers. Messrs G._ P. de Castro and Jas. Garcia carried out the duties of M’s.C. in . • their usual able manner. Supper extras were played by Miss Goldsworthy, and were heartily appreciated.
