APPEALS HEARD

SITTING IN COROMANDEL

ARMED FORCES BOARD

A sitting of the Armed Forces Appeal Board was held in Coromandel on Wednesday, June 10 1 , the chairman, Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M., presiding. Associated* with him were Messrs A. E. Manning, R. ' Coulter, the Crown representative, Mr D'. Seymour and the secretary, Mr D. Cosgrove.

iNorman Archer Wells Jnr., and W. J. Debenham, appealed l for Albert Edward Bowers and Leo Tracy Mellors. N. A. Wells appeared on behalf of W. J. Debenham and himself. Debenham was sharemilking with him and Bowers and Mellors were in their employ. Appellant stated he was working three farms, milking 140 cows on the home farm, also keeping 200 pigs, 640' sheep, 200 of which were breeding ewes, 41 springing heifers, 60 2-y ear-olds and 25 horses. Mounted Rifles and was only able to get special leave for crutching, etc., and was una'ble to obtain casual labour but could manage if he could keep one of the reservists on the job and let the other go to camp. The appeals were adjourned sine die. Sydney George Curtis, a farmer of Colville, appealed on his own account. Reservist stated he was fanning at Colville, milking 43 cows and running 600 sheep, 150 of which were breeding ewe!? and 75 head of cattle. Only himself and his father and mother were living on the farm. His father was able to help occasionally. The appeal was adjourned sine die. Robert Marshall, a farmer, appealed for Bertie George Rushton. Neither appeared and the appeal was ■ adjourned till next sitting of the board.
