NOT ENOUGH AIDS
HOSPITAL AT WAIHI MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS IMPROVEMENTS SUGGESTED A request that certain improvements should be carried out in the staffing of the Waihi Hospital, was contained in a letter from the Department of Health to Tuesday’s meeting of the Thames Hospital Board. The department wrote as under:—
“As a result of a visit of inspection of your Waihi Hospital, made recently by Miss Bridges, the following matters are brought to your attention. “1. The Nursing Aids at present receive two weeks’ annual leave. This should be increased to three weeks. “2. The standard, of some of the nursing techniques is not good, due mainly to the small number of aids on duty in the wards. There should be an additional aid on duty in each ward, which means an increase of four aids to the total staff. “3. In addition to the medical examination of aids which is given by the medical superintendent at the beginning of the course of training, there should be a further examination and X-ray given annually. “4. Because of the very great danger of cross-infection occurring during the nursing of children it is recommended that a hand basin with running water ,be built in the ward which has been set aside for children.” The matter was referred to the staff committee to take any necessary action.
Mr A. G. Davis: It is a pity that there is not a little praise instead of all criticism considering all we have done for Waihi. Mr S. H. Brown: If that is all that can be found at fault in a tour of inspection there is not very much wrong.” ,
