TWO BLOW-OUTS
PLAINS WATER SUPPLY LEAKS AT CROSSINGS PIPES BURIED BY FILLING “Repair work was done to the lOin. main in two places in the East Water Supply system,” reported the Water Supply Supervisor, Mr J. Bradford, to the monthly meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council.” The report continued: — “Both these blow-outs were on drain crossings. The whole supply had to be cut off for two days on both breaks, while repair work was carried out. Mr Adams inspected the breaks and instructed, me how he wanted the bends anchored. “On the smaller mains repair’ work was done, three of these 'blowing out at the joints.
“The trestle bridge at the bottom of Huirau road and part of the one at the headworks have been tarred. Pipes crossing on these bridges have had the joints recaulked. All stop valve and air valve indicator signs and boxes have been inspected and cleaned of grass.
“Two service connections in the West Water Supply had to be replaced, both these had to be pushed across the sealed road. 'No repair work was done to the mains on this supply. “At Waitakaruru the new road construction has filled in large fillings on top of the main. In this section the pipes are deep, but now with this filling on it it will mean a big job if we have a blow-out.”
