WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

CONFERENCE AT AUCKLAND BANNER TO WAITAKARURU Paeroa and Hauraki Plains members of the Women’s ' Institute •branches attended the bi-annual council meeting of the Auckland 'District Federation of Women’s Institutes, which was held recently in the Milne and Choyce reception hall. The president, Mrs E. R. Sawer, said that during the year many hundreds of parcels had been packed by members throughout each of the districts; knitting had been done in great quantity; garments had been sent to the Lady Galway Guild, and hospital comforts supplied to the Red Cross. Provisions were also sent to the mercantile marine.

Remits were dealt with in the afternoon session, the licensing laws being the subject of two remits which were passed unanimously.

A silver cup for competition in the drama section was presented in memory of the late Mrs Stanley Phillips, who was a former president of the federation.

The Dorman Banner, for the best work done during the year, was won by the Waitakaruru Institute.

At the evening, concert Miss T. Paul and: Mrs M. Grbich of Ngatea, presented a playette, “Mind Over Matter,” the item being very well received.
