ENGLISH SONGS
SUNG BY THE RUSSIANS VERY POPULAR IN SOVIET Translations of English and Scottish ballads and songs have a great popularity in the- 'Soviet Union, according to a’report in the current issue of the bulletin of the Slavonic Council, Auckland’. The Soviet poet Marshak has rendered a large number of these pieces into Russian, especially poems by Robert Burns. Moscow radio has broadcast a programme of translations of popular English and American songs, including such old favourites as “Polly - Wolly Doodle all the Day,” “Sweet and Low,” and “Early in the Morning.” These were sung by the Moscow radio choir.
