FARMERS’ UNION
ANNUAL MEETING HELD NORTHERN THAMES AREA OFFICERS FOR YEAR ELECTED The (general ancll annual meetings of the Northern Thames Sub-Province of the Farmers’ Union were held at the Brian Boru Hotel, Thames, last week, Mr S. E. Hall presiding over a large attendance of members.
The chairman, Mr S. E. Hall, reporting on the work of the Sub-Pro-vinice during the year., stated that it had! been a difficult one owing to the extra costs and labour shortage'- The Government had put into effect legislation that had caught the farmers in all ways. Other sections of the community held strikes and in other ways held up production, but the farmers carried on and did their best to assist the country’s war effort. He considered the farmers could be proud of being members of such an organisation and of their war effort. The executive of the Union has had more matters to attend to than ever before and, being short-staffed, was doing , a great job. He appealed for a larger membership and for all to- pull their weight. He had visited' most of the branches and found! them all doing good' work. He tha.nke.d Mr K. C. Niblock for his great assistance as secretary, and concluded by thanking all members for their co-operation and support during his term, of office. Election of Officers The election of officers resulted:— President, Mr S. E. Hall; viee-presi-dents, Messrs W. H. Cheale, H. H. Hicks, A. J. Campbell; delegates to provincial conference, Messrs L. Tye, W. H. Cheale, A. J. Campbell, M. Minifie, E. Jamieson, C. G. Jackson and H. H. Hicks.
