Gift to Relieve London Distress
The destiny of a gift of £-250 which the South Island Motor Union had intended to forward to the Automobile Association of England for the relief of distress in London, was discussed at the Canterbury Automobile Association’s last meeting. The Union had been informed that the money could not leave the country unless it were sent to the Lord Mayor of London’s Distress Fund; but this could not be done without the consent of Automobile Associations throughout the island. The Canterbury Association recommended that the money be sent, as it was felt that, although the money had been intended to give expression to the -solidarity between English and New Zealand associations, its main purpose had been to relieve distress in any way that was possible.
