GAME AT WHITIANGA
GOOD SEASON REPORTED
ACCLIMATISATION CLUB MEETS
The annual meeting of the Whitianga Acclimatisation and Game Conservation Club was held recently.
The balance sheet showed a small credit balance, this comparing favourably with other seasons.
The annual report stated that the club activities had been limited owing to petrol restrictions and the number of members in the Armed Forces. However, 22 licences were sold and £33 forwarded to the Auckland society. This number was only three less than the two' previous years of 25 each.
Pheasant bags were good, showing an increase over previous seasons and. the recent breeding season shows great promise, numerous clutches being reported.
Bags of duck were disappointing owing to the unsuitable tides during the open fortnight. The birds, however, seem to be numerous enough throughout the district.
Through the generosity of Mr C. A. Whitney, who presented 12 Mallards, great work has been done with these birds. Nine pair were made up and distributed and from these 50 fine birds have been liberated to date. Some of these seen since liberation, appear to be doing well. Pheasants received, from the Auckland society this year _• totalled 71. These were distributed throughout the district by club members. Taken from birds destroyed in this district,. 71 pair of hawks’ feet were forwarded to the Auckland society.
