TO DISBAND
TE AROHA FARMERS’ UNION BUSY WITH WAR WORK TIME FOR ORDINARY MEETINGS A decision to disband the T T 'ion, and meet only once a <- rter, was reached at the annual meeting of the Te ArohaWaihou branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union held last Wednesday. The chairman, Mr G. H. Reid, said that members were engaged in many organisations such as the Home Guard, and in his opinion the work they were doing was much more important than holding meetings of the Farmers’ Union. The time had come when action was an essential factor, and the affairs of the union could be quite easily left to a small committee to deal with and to call meetings as required.
The secretary, Mr J. T. Finnigan, expressed the same opinion. This year he had much more work to do, and he felt he would be unable to carry on as secretary. * Other Members’ Views
Other members present (there were only about six) considered the time had come when they could utilise their services in a much better capacity than by just attending meetings. Mr D. J. Burgess said that while the affairs of the Farmers’ Union in Te Aroha should not be altogether neglected, it was unnecessary for them to meet every month. He moved that a small executive meet quarterly to review the activities of the union and to advise members by circular of anything that may be of importance, and also to give a general review of the activities during the quarter. * The motion was carried.
