MANY IMMIGRANTS

ADMITTED TO AUSTRALIA During November 972 migrants arrived in Australia as permanent residents. Fgures released by the Commonwealth Statistician (Dr. Roland Wilson) show that 773 were British. Net permanent migration for the year ended November, 1939, was 13,045, compared with 7861 for the corresponding period in 1938. 'Permanent new arrivals totalled 24,952, but there were 11,907 permanent departures from Australia. Leading permanent arrivals were 11,599 British, 5273 Germans and 2421 Italians.
