BANK BROKEN

FLOODING AT PIPIROA DAMAGE BY THE TIDE SEA WATER INVADES STORE An exceptionally high tide with the wind blowing up the gulf caused a break in the stopbank at Pipiroa on Friday. The sea water invaded several properties, and some damage was caused. The tide waters entered the Pipiroa store owned by Mr J. F. Fabian, ■damaging the stock to some extent. Flood water also covered properties occupied by Messrs P. Clark, R. G. Welch and W. Ganley, leaving deposits' of silt on the .paddocks. Although the houses were clear of the water, the sea covered over gardens which were damaged in some cases. Temporary repairs were effected to the bank on Friday, and these were sufficient to keep the tide out that night, but on Saturday morning the water again broke the bank. The sea entered Mr Fabian’s home once more, and several inches covered the floods in the house. A team of trucks and men worked until 9 o’clock on Saturday night repairing the bank, 105 cubic yards of clay being required before it was raised sufficiently to stop the tide.
