FORTY YEARS AGO

OHINEMURI A. & H. SOCIETY THE ANNUAL MEETING OFFICERS ELECTED FOR YEAR [From the Ohinemuri Gazette of June 30, 1899.] The annual meeting of the Ohinemuri Agricultural and Horticultural Society was held in Messrs Mackay and Pratt’s auction mart on Thursday afternoon. There was a fair attendance. In the unavoidable absence of the president (Mr James Mackay) Mb? J. Nathan was voted to the chair. New Members Messrs G. A. Burgess, A. Forbes, D. Craig, W. T. Turners, J. W. Shaw, J. Kennedy, J. W. Thorp and W. H. Mahoney were elected members of the Society. Election Of Officers Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows:— Patron, Mr F. Cock; treasurer, Mr G. A. Burgess; secretary, Mr Edwin 1 Edwards; committee, Messrs W. Tetley, C. Colcough, J. Andrew, J. Kennedy, H. A. Mackay, F. Pratt, A. Hogg, J. W. Thorp, R. Forbes, D. Craig, Jas. Mackay and H. Brunskill. ITEMS OF INTEREST The two stars of Miss Milgrew’s concert were undoubtedly Miss Amy Gentil and little Jack Crosby. Miss Gentil really possesses a first-class voice, and should develop into a splendid singer. Master Crosby is a born comedian. The “ Three Little Maids of Lee,” were also Al, as were also Miss Barrett’s solos. In fact all were good, and Miss Milgrew is to be greatly con- ' gratulated on her pupils. * * * * The dredging boom seems quite likely to attack Ohinemuri. A number of assays said to be payable have been taken from the Ohinemuri River below the Crown battery. Well, why not?
