OPERATION TO-MORROW

ALL WOMEN MUST PAY REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS Registration under the Social Security Act, which come into operation on April 1, will commence next Saturday at all post offices throughout the Dominion. Men who have already registered under the Employment Promotion Act are not required to reregister, and will continue to use the coupon books already held by them. Those immediately affected are the women of the community and . boys and girls 16 years of age or over. Legislative Provisions

Under the legislation all persons, male and female, including natives, are required:—■ To register within one month after April 1, 1939. Upon registration to obtain a coupon book. To pay the Social Security charge at the rate of Is in the £ upon all salary and wages earned. Unless exempted, to pay the annual or quarterly instalments of the registration fee as these fall due. Income Other Than Wages

To furnish during May of each year a, declaration as to income other than salary or wages derived during the year ended on the previous March 31 and to pay the Social Security charge upon such income.

The registration fee for male persons 16 years of age and under 25, and all female persons, is 5s annually, this amount being due and payable on May 1 each year. For males 20 years of age or over the fee is 5s quarterly, and is due and payable as at present on the first day of February, May, August and November of each year. Default in the payment of the registration fee will result in a penalty of 6d for every month or part of a month that elapses after one month from the due date, with a maximum of 2s 6d for each instalment.

Deductible By Employer

The charge on salary and wages earned on and after to-morrow is at the rate of Id in every Is 8d of the income, and is deductible by the employer at the time of payment. This is payable by the employer in social security stamps, and within three days after deduction these must be affixed in the wages book or upon the wages receipt and- cancelled by means of the signature or initials and the date. Where the total amount of the charge deducted exceeds £5, payment may be effected at any money order office and the receipt issued attached to the wages book or wages receipt.
