“ TARANAKI SYSTEM ” PAEROA MEMBERS’ OPINION LAST COMMITTEE MEETING The contemplated ‘‘‘Taranaki system” for rugby competition in the Thames Valley Rtugby Union was discussed by the management committee of the Paeroa union, on Monday evening and resulted in a recommendation being passed for consideration at the annual meeting to-morrow evening, favouring the proposal if it were found workable.
The chairman, Mr D. G. McMillan, pointed out that one difficulty would be that one senior team would lose its identity and he suggested that the Hikutaia club could remain intact, particularly as it had facilities for the players to train together, and that one team could be formed in Paeroa.
Too Much Travelling.
Mr Geo. Avery stated that the Hikutaia club did not favour * the move, principally on the ground that his club did a certain amount of travelling and the proposed system would entail more. Mr S. I. Mclntyre supported the idea of Hikutaia remaining intact because of the community of interest for training among its members'. The town clubs would still have to look after junior and third grade teams, he added. The balance sheet and report, as published elsewhere, were approved for submission to the annual meeting. Ambulance Grant On the motion of Messrs H. T. Grant and J. Shears it was decided to send a donation of £2 2s from the general account to the St. John Ambulance Association together with a lettei- thanking the members of the division for their assistance at all matches.
The chairman extended to members his thanks for their assistance during the past season. Although they had had differences of opinion, he stated, these had not marred the friendships formed on the committee.
