RUGBY AT PAEROA
CURTAIN-RAISER ON SATURDAY REPRESENTATIVE THIRDS. Final arrangements for the Auck-land-Thames Valley rugby representative match to be played at Paeroa on Saturday were made by the management committee of the Paeroa Rugby Union on Monday evening. The cur-tain-raiser will be between Waihi and Paeroa third grade teams for the McLean Cup. Mr H. Wilton has chosen the following team to represent the Paeroa third grades: Mitchell; Cridge, Vercoe, Hurunui; Chamberlain, Royal; Bowmar; M. Kurtovich, S. Kurtovich, Schaare, Waldron, Jamieson, McCorquodale, Milne, Prout; emergencies, Kidd, Ryall and Callaghan. PRIMARY SCHOOLS’ MATCH VALLEY WINS VANCOUVER CUP. The Thames Valley primary schools rugby representatives journeyed to Pukekohe on Saturday and retrieved the Vancouver Cup from the South Auckland team by 19 points to three. Outstanding in contributing to the home team’s downfall was the fast centre from Thames, Hancock, who scored four tries. South Auckland’s failure was due to a mediocre set of backs who lacked a knowledge of positional play, although the forwards outplayed the valley pack.
For the winners tries were scored by Hancock (4) and Short, and Gillon and Maddren converted two. One of the holders’ wingers after a 35-yard run grounded the ball outside the dead ball line.
