PAEROA SCHOOL

MEETING OF COMMITTEE The monthly meeting of the Paeroa District High School was held last evening, the Rev. W. G. H. Weadon presiding over Messrs. C. Cane, A. H. M. Farrell, W. A. Harrington, R. J. Roberts (secretary) and A. E. Day, (headmaster). The Milk Fund. The treasurer reported that the credit balance of the milk fund to carry forward for next winter was £8 3 s 10d. Cups for Competition. Mr. Roberts suggested an annual inter-district high school swimming competition. A suitable trophy could be acquired for about £3. The headmaster said that there were already far too many cups in competition among school children. There were many fine competitions ‘held annually but experience had shown that of donation of trophies created such a spirit as was undesirable in children.

Members agreed, and it was decided that no action be taken.

School Bus Service.

R. S. Gerrard, Paeroa, wrote advising that he had provided a properly equipped bus for the transport of his and his neighbours’ children to school. There were 15 children, all beyond two miles and some beyond three miles of the school. It was decided to advise Mr. Gerrard that the parents must make application to the Education Board for a conveyance allowance and to ask the Education Board for information as to the matter. Inspector’s Report. The confidential report of the Education Board’s Inspector was read and the headmaster was complimented by members on its excellence. Finance. Accounts totalling £23 13s wbre passed for payment, leaving a credit balance of £2l 19s lid. Mantenance. Mr. Harrington, oh behalf of the visiting committee, reported on the necessity for sundry items of maintenance and these were authorised. Headmaster’s Report. The headmaster, Mr. A. E. Day, in his monthly report, gave the roll numbers, and average attendances were: Primary, 394 and 370; secondary, 42 and 39. This was very satisfactory considering the weather.
