PEROXIDE
USE IN THE KITCHEN A bottle of peroxide of hydrogen is as invaluable on the kitchen shelf as in the medicine cupboard, states an exchange. Its cleansing and disinfecting powers can help the housekeeper over many small difficulties. When the kitchen sink has been neglected it can be made spotless again by being rubbed with a rag and a warm peroxide solution. If the marks prove obstinate first, put in the sink plug and leave the peroxide solution covering the pottery. After an hour or so, a hot soapy rinse should remove the last specks, which, as a rule, are the result of tea ■ stains. A stained kitchen table may gradually be restored to whiteness if a few drops of peroxide be added to the ”cld watei' with which it is scrubbed. The same applies to wooden draining racks and draining boards. Should ink or fruit juice be spilt on deal or unstained oak, rub the spot with a cut lemon, then apply peroxide and leave it to soak in.
