EVENT OF THE SEASON.

HUNT BALL AT PAEROA. VERY ENJOYABLE FUNCTION. This year’s annual ball in connection with the visit of the Maramarua Hunt Club to Paeroa was the best attended, jolliest, best arranged and the most enjoyable dance function held in Paeroa for many years and some hundreds of people will have cause to look back upon last Friday evening with pleasant memories. The Regent ballroom was filled and was it not for the fact that the Soldiers Clubroom which had been arranged as a lounge was also used for dancing, the floor would have been uncomfortably crowded. Dancers were present from a very wide area and quite a number of the other Hunt Clubs in the province were represented. ■ ' 1 Proceedings commenced with the arrival of the Master of the Hunt, Mr J. D. Fagan and Mrs Fagan to whom three debutantes were presented, Miss Vorrie McClune of Mangatarata, Miss Peggy Wilson of Te Aroha and Miss Bobbie Hunger of Te Aroha. The grand march was led .by the Master and Mrs Fagan followed by the Ward Master, Mr R. A. Wiggins and Mrs E. P. Fathers, the three debutantes and their escorts, the ward social secretary, Miss Joan Wiggins and the huntsman and the Hunt Club secretary, Mr and Mrs S. Symes. The grand march was of .short duration owing to the number of dancers present and following the waltz there was a jazz which brought out the spirit of the evening. A hunstmen’s lancers served to break down any further shyness and from then on till 3.30 a.m. the dance proceeded so merrily that most people were surprised to learn of the time when the orchestra commenced the playing of “Auld Lang Syne.”

With that attention to detail which marked the whole function the committee had. arranged for Bennett’s string band to play in the lounge and early in the evening dancing was in full swing there. The Collegians orchestra provided the music in the ballroom. A splendid buffet suppei. was laid out 'in Mr Henderson’s storeroom on the other side of Wharf Street, this building as also was the Soldiers’ Club, being tastefully decorated with bunting. This type of sup- . per was an innovation to Paeroa and was of a standard hitherto unequalled , but, as in the case of so many, other very big functions, the lack of adequate space caused some trouble as it necessitated setting the tables three times. Adequate supper-room facilities are very much needed in Paeroa. However, in this department, as elsewhere, there was a splendid band of willing helpers so that the supper was but one part of the very successful function. Among those present were: — Mrs J- D.
