REVENUE FROM POWER

SATISFACTORY INCREASE. FARM MOTORS PRODUCE LESS. With the exception of farm motors and street lighting? all branches of the Thames Valley Power Board’s activity in the past nine months show increased'revenue, as compared with the three quarters of the previous financial year. The reduction in farm motor revenue was due to reduced charges for milking motors. The number of units consumed by farm motors was 2,025,593, against 2,021,034 for the December period, 1932, an increase of 6,559 units, explained Mr R. Sprague, who pointed out that there were 304 additional farm motors connected during this year. Actually the reduction to farm motors was considerably in excess of £2,846 7s 3d. The sales of electricity for the period amounted to £100,907 3s 9d against £99,561 16s 8d for the same period in 1932—an increase of £1,345 7s Id. On the expenditure side of the account, continued Mr Sprague, power purchases show an increase of £405 7s 5d , The reduction in interest charges of £1,651 19s 9d slightly more than sets off the increase on the London interest exchange of £1,475 14s 6d. . Administration costs have been reduced by £B5B 10s 3d. Meter replacements, that is, the installation of polyphase meters, amounting to £3,741 10s 3d, is set off from the depreciation account to the extent of £2,926 3s 6d. The increase of £1,394 Is 5d in discounts allowed is accounted for by the reduction of id per unit in lighting rates. Notwithstanding the reductions made during the year the position is very similar to that of the corresponding December period 1932, but the ultimate result for the year will be affected by the revenue obtained for the quarter ending March, 1934, particularly in respect of farm motors.
