HERD TESTING.

DECEMBER AVERAGES. HAURAKI PLAINS GROUPS. The statement of the December averages of the New Zealand Herd Testing Association (Inc.), shows that since 1931 there has been a steady increase in production. The number of cows tested has increased from 97,091 to 105,167 to 111,976; the average milk production from 763 lbs in 1931 to 786 lbs. in 1933; the test from 4.30 to 4.36 to 4.46 and the butterfat from 32.84 lbs. in 1931 to 35.10 lbs. in December last. Ngatea shows a decrease in production of .20' lbs. The best herds in the Plains groups are:—Kerepeehi, 23 cows, 42.73 lbs.; Netherton, 37 cows, 44.48 lbs.; Ngatea, 71 cows, 38.38 lbs.; Patetonga, 36 cows, 43.9’7 lbs.; Turua, 48 cows, 45.43 cows; Waitakaruru, 67 cows, 49.17 cows. A Waitakaruru owned cow tied with another cow for the fourth position on the list of the highest producing cows in the Association.
