ODDFELLOWSHIP.
LOYAL JUBILEE LODGE. OLD MEMBERS’ NIGHT. Congratulations on the dignity with which the officers of the Loyal Jubilee Lodge conducted the ceremonial were expressed by a number of the very old members who were present at last evening’s meeting by special invitation. P.G. Bro. Edwin Edwards offered his congratulations, and compared the standard of the work with that of thirty years ago, and P.G. Bro. W. Smith, a member of 35 years’ standing, mentioned that it was while he was the N. G. of the Loyal Karangahake Lodge that the system of reciting the whole of the ritual from memory had been introduced by him. The congratulations showered on the Karangahake Lodge had caused other Lodges to follow its example. It was therefore particularly pleasing to him to see the practice carried out again and done so well. Other old members expressed their congratulations and their thanks for the special invitation to be present. The N.G. Bro. J. H. Smith presided and the attendance numbered 36. Three new members were initiated into the Order and were accorded the formal honours.
An appeal for members to attend the group meeting at Waikino on February 22 was made by the N.G., who mentioned that the District Grand Master, Bro F. Hard, had some very important matters affecting the future to obtain the opinion of members upon. Advice was received that there would be a meeting of the Thames Valley Past Grands’ Lodge at Paeroa on February 14 for the purpose of conferring advanced degrees. The Loyal Netherton Lodge, which had won the Mears Shield in last winter’s 509 tournament, notified that it had donated the trophy for further competition among the Lodges of Hauraki Plains and Paeroa. The secretary reported that Sister Z. Parkinson had been appointed by the social committee as its secretary. The purpose of the Lodge, the assistance of its members in times of sickness, was carried out in the authorising of the payment from the accumulated fund of members’ subscriptions, of a number of accounts for sick pay and hospital accounts. After the meeting a dance was held, during which supper was served and a number of vocal items were contributed. Some of the older members played cards. LOYAL NETHERTON LODGE. FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. ♦ The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Netherton Lodge, held in the Netherton Hall last evening, was attended by about forty members. The N.G., Bro. H. Heappey, reported on the arrangements made by delegates of the Hauraki Plains Lodges, who met at Ngatea on Monday last to discuss plans for the holding of group installation ceremonies. A draw had been taken wtih the result that the inaugural group installation meeting will be held at Waitakaruru next June. After the meeting ar “sing, say or pay” was held. The advisability of holding another Lodge dance was discussed and it was agreed that one be held at the end of the month. An enjoyable supper, served by the ladies, brought the evening to a close.
