PAEROA CENTRE MEETING. ■' 5 . “KINDLE WAKES.” The first regular meeting of the local branch of W.E<A. students iwas held in the Public Library Reading Room on Thursday evening. The three-act play, “Hindle Wakes,” by Stanley Houghton, was cast and read. The circumstantial evidence which revealed, the week-end doings* of two young persons secured the' interest of the readers right to the end. The anticipated marriage fails to come off to the ’unexpected spirit and knowledge of life shown by Fanny Hawthorn. <
'Mr E. V. SJyfield was elected leader of the Circle, and Miss M. Dean
secretary. “Jane Glegg,” a play by St. John Ervine, will be studied next week. The ladies parts h'ave been allotted to capable readers, and the play being one in which Sybil Thorndike, appeared in the initial production, it is expected to furnish a fine opportunity for character reading. The support of more male members is sought by the leader.
