The opinion that the pukeko should be included among game birds and shot was expressed by Mr Fitzgerald at a meeting of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society held at Putaruru recently. He stated that the pukeko was an enemy of the grey duck, and that it ate the eggs of the grey duck and drove it from the swamps. Instances were given by members where the pukeko even went into farmyards and ate the eggs in the nests and killed young ducks and geese.
