CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —In your issue of the 9th inst. I notic? you take the Chamber to task for not holding the usual monthly meeting. Your remarks in the main me quite correct, but I can assure your readers and those interested in the Chamber that, because a regular meeting was adjourned it is not the beginning of another period of dormancy for the Chamber. Some impertan* business was to have come before this particular monthly meeting, but unfortunately this was not ready. Certainly the executive held its meeting a week or so prior to the date of the monthly meeting of members. as is the custom and, we think, accessory for the welfare of the Chamber. However, after the executive meeting we considered our teasers sufficiently sound to postpone the regular monthly meeting. I am fully alive H the fact that it is the memI crs, and not only those on the executive, to whom we mostly look to bring fcrwaid matters for discussion which may be to the advantage of our town and district generally. I will thank you, Mr Editor, to publish this explanation. Generally speaking I feci sure the Chamber as a body will not take exception to your leader, but will welcome it. Mostly, I think, your article was constructive criticism, and such should be welcomed through the medium of the Press by any body of citizens who iray combine with the object of advancing their own town and district. J. W. SILCOCK. President, Paeroa Chamber of Commerce.
