DRAINAGE MATTERS.
NETHERTON BOARD. SHORT MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Netherton Drainage Board, held on Friday last, was short, for there was very little business to be done. ?>fr G. Buchanan presided over'Messrs H. T. V. Johnson, B. Halligan, E. -J. C. Townshend, T. Vowles, and J. Ef. Green (clerk). •» " . River Conference. The Board discussed the Waihou River Improvement Scheme at short length, Mr Buchanan stating that he was of the opinion that the Plains right down to the Piako should be included in the scheme. The Waihou water was every bit as dangerous to settlers on the lower and western plains as it was to those on the banks of the Waihou. The water in flood time had previously broken through from the Waihou and affected the Plains as far down as Ngatea. Without the Waihou scheme the whole of the Plains would be in an uncertain position. He believed the rating area should be extended as far as possible. Flood Gates. The Public Works Engineer (Mr A. P. Grant) informed the Board that as soon as an opportunity offered and men were available, that all the flood gates in the area would be attended to and lifting gear erected. The gear would probably take the form 'Of a block and tackle. General Business. It was "left in the hands of area members to arrange for the deepening, of Wilson’s roadside drain from Drain HtoMr R. Wilson’s pipes. The members were instructed to call’, private tenders for the work. The Awaiti members were instructed, if necessary, to arrange fcr the rough cleaning of the Awaiti Roadside drain.
Authority was given to place a man on to deepen the old Paeroa Road drain, from drain H, for four chains westward.
