, JUNIOR FOOTBALL.
. (To the Editor.) Sir, —A few lines drawing attention to the want of true sportsmanship and decent ..courtesy extended to the Hikutaia junior football team with reference •to • its match against Turua last Saturday. The team was ordered by the Union to proceed to Turua, right out of the Union territory, and, would you believe it, when the team left Hikutaia it was under the impression that it had to play under a Turua referee not controlled by the Paeroa Referees’ Association; but better judgment prevailed and Mr Keighley was there to officiate. The most hurtful point was that the Union should see fit to order the club really out of its turn down there and, mind you, not one official had the decency to go. and see that everything pertaining to the game of Rugby was in order.' This club seeks no fa’.ours, but it certainly gets the knocks. A decision declared by the referee and ruled in favour of Hikutaia turned out most disastrous to them. As a Rugby supporter of over 20 years, and a supporter of the Hikutaia Club, and I cannot recall a case of such callous treatment and I warrant that when the town teams go there, there will be more interest shown by the members of the Union. I. M. ROBINSON.
