THE CHAIRMAN’S POLICY.

ADOPTION BY COUNCIL.

As a, matter of policy the Hauraki Plains County Council its meeting yesterday adopted the following points in the chairman’s statejnemnt of policy, a,s outlined at the annual meeting :—

“That the maintenance of existing metal roads be the first charge on the general rates. “That a reconciliation with the Lands Drainage Department be sought. “That in .future machinery be paid for out of the loan for the work on which it will be used, rather than out of the machinery loans. “That the question of utilising the Hikutaia quarry for the provision of metal chips for the, maintenance of the. roads in the county when the present crushing contract is completed be considered when a report has been obtained from the engineer.

“That stricter regulation of traffic be enforced.

“That a definite, programme of work for the year be mapped out to prevent overlapping and needless transports tion of nlanL"
