ENTERTAINMENTS.

THE ENGLISH PIERROTS.

IN “BITS AND PIECES.”

The English Pierrots entertained a Paeroa audience last night in the Central. Theatre with . “Bits and Pieces,” dishing up good fave throughout, to the accompaniment of a capable orchestra. Selecting a leading “bit” and “piece” as the programme goes, the following are worthy of being particularised:

“Highland Mary,” by Harry Schoefield and the Company, a .bright breeze o’ the brae. Roy Cooke, in “Jogging Along the Highway,” was a w.elcome artist indeed, and, kept •up the good opinion of the audience with the encore “Just Plain Dog.” The “Faust” operatic piece .was a delectable morsel. Miss Moya Crossley played the violin with skill and fine expression, “Salut d’ Amour,” and the enepr.e numbers being greatly appreciated. The soprano of the company and also the tenor are both very melodious, and distinctly above the average in range, resonance and powei’ of expression. One of the best “bits” of the evening, or rather “A Piece of Dancing,” as the programme has it, was the ftyicy step by Miss Joy Rolls and Mr Leslie Austin, who gave a graceful- exhibition of what meant- by the expression “the poetry of motion.” “A Dud Di’.eam” was good, especially the parts played by Mr Chas. E. Lawrence as “The Aussie” and by Mr E. Warrington as “The Tommy,” but the thing was rather overrated in the Company’s advertising matter, and in any case, the public havs had a good deal of. that, kind of fare, and the novelty has worn off. ' . However, the Company was very acceptable, and would get a good house again on a return trip.
