CITY v. KIA ORA. In the match played on the Recreation Ground cn Saturday between the above teams, City showed much better combination than Kia Ora winning by 25 points to 7. City kicked off and Kia Ora brought play to midfield. From a scrum a passing movement by City put Kia Ora on the defensive. A free kick to Kia Ora, shifted play to safer ground and from a scrum they looked dangerous, but an infringement held up the movement. They had a free kick from which City secured and good passing put Kia Ora on the defensive. A free kick to Kia Ora relieved the position, but shortly afterwards City were back again, the ball crossing the line. Kia Ora forced and the 25 kick shifted play to midfield. City went on the offensive again and looked like scoring but good defence saved. A good run by a Kia Ora back relieved the position and he had a fair chance of scoring, but lost the ball. From a. scrum City advanced to Kia Ora 25 where a breach gave Kia Ora a free kick. Miki started a likely looking movement, but a forward pass brought this to an end. From the

scium they carried play to City 25, where a free kick put them in a good position to score, but City backs cleared and reversed the position. The home team defended well and shortly afterwards a good movement by the backs shifted play to neutral teiritory. From a scrum City were put on the defensive, but offside playgive them a free kick. Play sw’ung up and down and from a free kick City looked dangerous but the ball went ont at corner. From the scrum Kia Ora carried play to City 25 and kept their opponents busy for a time. A free kick to City shifted play to midfield. Kia Ora had a free kick from which City secured and attacked. Kia Ora knocked on and from the scrum good passing by City backs resulted in an unconverted try being scored. City 3. Even play ensued until halftime. Kia Ora kicked off and put City on the defensive. Play returned to midfield, where a free kick to Kia Ora put them in a good position to score. From a scrum near the line Johnson dashed over and scored a try which Paki failed to convert, Kia Ora 3, City 3. City kicked to Kia Ora 25 and from a scrum carried play across field in front of the pests, adding 2 points to their score with a drop kick goal. Kia Ora attacked, a knock on stopping the movement. From the scrum play to Kia Ora territory and fast following gave City a try which was converted. From Kia Ora’s kick City secured and a good movement by the backs carried play to their opponent’s 25, where the ball went out. From the scrum Kia Ora shifted play to midfield, where an infringement gave City a free kick. City backs got go-

ing and scored a try, which was converted. Kia Ora put City on the defensive, but from a scrum play travelled to midfield. Kia Ora had a free kick, the ball going out in City territory. From the scrum play travelled across field and Kia Ora goalcd a free kick. City 15, Kia Ora 5. C’ity attacked, gooel defence saving the situation. Kia Ora • had a free kick and City carried play to midfield. From a scrum Kia Ora attacked and the ball crossed the line, but travelled too far. City kicked from the 25 and Davidson scored a fine try which was converted.

Kia Ora attacked, the ball going cut near the corner Kia Ora got the ball from the scrum, but offside play gave City a free kick. Kia Ora secured, and an infringement by City gave them a successful shot at goal. Kia Ora 7, City 20.

City attacked strongly and just on the call of time a fine passing movement by the backs resulted in a try, which was converted. City 25, Kia Ora 7. Mr. Harlock controlled the game.

HUNTLY v. TAUPIRI. In this game Huntly were getting the ball from the scrums and showed better combination than the visitors. They were leading by 5 points to 4 until a try by Tittleton at the end of the game gave Taupiri a lead of two points.

The Play. Huntly kicked off and play went to Taupiri territory, where an infringement gave Taupiri a free kick. Taupiri attacked, the ball going out. Play travelled up and down, each team attacking at intervals. Huntly had a free kick, which sent play to Taupiri territory. From a scrum Scott secured and made a good run but a knock on stopped the ‘movement. Shortly after a free kick to Taupiri shifted play to midfield. From a scrum Taupiri took, to Huntly territory where Smith secured and put in a good run to midfield, where he was grassed. Taupiri attacked, the ball going out near the corner. Good work by Huntly backs shifted play to safer ground. Play swung up and down, each tear I having a turn at defence. Whorskey made a good run from midfield, but

w'as stopped by Garry. An infringement gave Taupiri a free kick, the ball going out at midfield. ‘From the scrum Huntly attacked, but good work by Jackways relieved the position. Hill put Huntly on the defensive, but a free kick to the home team ‘shifted play back to midfield. Rayner and Smith made a break and Smith had an unsuccessful shot at goal. Jackways followed the kick from the 25 and put Huntly on the defensive, the ball going out near the corner. Play travelled across field and a free kick to Taupiri gave Tittleton a shot at goal, which failed. Huntly attacked, but a well placed kick by Garry sent the ball out at midfield. From the scrum Whorskey looked dangerous, but was stopped at the corner. A free kick to Taupiri shifted play to midfield. Taupiri went on the offensive, a well

ession of the ball. A good run by Davies put Taupiri on the defence, but play travelled back to midfield. Taupiri advanced to Huntly territory, and from a scrum Tittleton looked dangerous, but was pushed >ut. A free kick to Huntly gave Taupiri the ball and - they were in a good position to score. A knockcn stopped the movement, and from che scrum Huntly returned play to midfield. Good work by Huntly backs put Taupiri on the defensive, but they proved equal to the occasion, and play returned to midfield. Halftime came w r ith Taupiri attacking.

Taupiri kicked off and attacked, Jackways being dangerous but strong defence by the home team saved. From a scrum Huntly shifted play to neutral territory, but shortly after Taupiri attacked again. After a short period of defensive play good work by Smith and Whorskey resulted in a try by the latter, which was converted, Huntly 5.

Taupiri’s kick sent the ball out in Huntly territory. An infringement by Huntly gave Tittleton an unsuccessiul shot at goal, Huntly forced, and from the 25 kick Taupiri attacked again and Jackways kicked a penalty goal, Taupiri 2, Huntly 5. Huntly kicked out and from the scrum went on the offensive, but good defence kept them from scoring. Play travelled to midfield, and Taupiri attacked, the ball going out. From the scrum Huntly attacked, and the ball crossed Taupiri line, but was forced by the defending side. Taupiri’s kick sent play to midfield and a good tun by Tittleton put Huntly on the defensive. Huntly cleared and at-

tacked, but an infringement gave Taupiri a free kick, which shifted play to midfield. They continued the movement but a mark brought this to an end. Play remained in Huntly territory and Tittleton kicked a goal from the field, Taupiri 4. Huntly kicked out, and from the scrum the backs got going and carried play to Taupiri territory. A free kick gave Knight a shot at goal which failed. Taupiri followed the 25 kick and Dwen took play to Huntly territory. An attack by Taupiri w as stopped by Whorskey, but shortly afterwards play returned to Huntly territory where Hill secured and kicked to Huntly 25, where the ball went out. From the scrum Huntly attacked and a fine attempt by Whorskey was brought to an end by strong defence. Taupiri had a free kick and Huntly looked like scoring, but a knock-on held up the movement. Huntly continued the attack until a breach gave Taupiri a free kick. Knight and Davies looked dangerous, but good defence held them. Taupiri broke away and play shifted to midfield, but shortly after Huntly w r ent on the defensive again. From a scrum Huntly attacked again, but Taupiri shifted play to midfield. Hill put Huntly on the defensive with a long kick and after a- short period cf offensive play Tittleton scored an unconverted try, Taupiri 7, Huntly 4. The game ended immediately afterwards.
