ANZAC DAY SERVICE.

AN IMPRESSIVE CEREMONY The sixteenth anniversary of Anzac Day was commemorated on Friday last, when a simple and impressive service was held in the Town Hall, a large gathering being present to pay their tribute of respect to our departed heroes. Led by Piper T. Ingram, to the stirring strains of the pipes, a procession of returned soldiers, and members of St. John’s Ambulance, under the command of Major K. S. Caldwell, marched from Ebbett’s garage to the Town Hall, where citizens from Huntly and outlying districts to as far as Taupiri, were assembled. On the platform were the Mayor, Mr. W. C. E. George, and the Revs. C. J. Bush-King, M. C. Gibb, and C. E. Dickens, who all took part in the service, the Rev. Bush-King giving an impressive address. At the conclusion of the service, the roll of honour was read, which was followed by the singing of the National Anthem, and the playing of the “Last Post,” by Mr. W. Sharley. Miss B. Housley was the accompanist f6r the service. Afterwards, the gathering adjourned to the Cenotaph, where many beautiful wreaths had been placed, and there was absolute silence while Piper T. Ingram played “Lochaber No More.” The company of returned men, who marched from the hall, were then duly dismissed.
