Meeting of Householders
The annual meeting of householders was held in the school house on Monday evening last at 7 p.m. There was a very poor attendance, not a lady being present. Mr J. P. Bailey was voted to the chair, and in a few remarks thanked those present for placing him in that capacity for the second time, and declared the meeting open. REPORT.
The chairman of the late committee in a few remarks said there was amotion in the minute book to the effect that the Minister of Education, Mr Hanng, be written to re the number of scholars required for starting a high school —the reply made it impossible as one-third were not eligible. The committee then decided to call a conference inviting other committees to meet them at Huntly, at which Mr F. Harris was elected secretary, and good work resulted in bringing the matter before the Board of Education, and information came to hand that the High school would be establishes in Huntly about July, and I have no hesitation in saying that the High Sshool will be established. Technical School —I am a great believer in a technical school, and during the year the committe had been working to seeure it. It required £SO to to be raised which would be subsidised by the Government —they had about £3O in hand, and the school should be opened in the near future. Mr Smith, secretary, had worked assiduously in the clerical part in connect'on with the Board in procuring two new tanks for the school —it had been reported that the old ones could be repaired, but on examaination it was found necessary to procure new ones which were granted, and £5 to put the place in order. During the year there had been 12 removals in the staff of teachers, which made the headteacher’s task more arduous, but nevertheless good work had been done, and Mr Garland was quite satisfied with the teachers. The general health of the pupils was good. Mr Husband’s work as-care-taker was considered very satisfactory. The balance sheet was then read as follows .—• •>
I certify that I have compared the foregoing statement with the books and vouchers, and find it correct, duly vouched, and in accordance with the law. A. G. ALEXANDER, Auditor. 23rd Jan., 1917.
