TE HOE. (Own Correspondent.) A social was held on Friday last in aid ot the Sick and Wounded Soldiers Fund, and realised j £25. : Considerable damage was done | in this district during the recent j floods, especially to the rodds. | Mr C. Thompson, when driving tothe Ohinewai Station last week met with a nasty accident. A part of the harness carrying away, caused the horse to bolt, the gig turning a complete sumerset and landing on the horses back breaking off both shafts. Mr Thompson wa sthrown heavily to the ground sustaining a severe shaking but fortutately no bones, were broken, WAIKOKOWAI. Own Correspondent. A very successful Euchre Party and Dance was held in the school last Friday night. Prizes were won by Mr E. Seffcon and Miss E. Jamieson who had to play off with Miss E. Leek for the place of honour. Mr A. Caley and Mrs Naylor had the luck to win the “ booby prizes.” Thanks are due to Messrs Hardwick and Hart for supplying the music. Mr Naylor has been very successful with Lis pig-breeding this season, having three fine litters. This will be more convenienent to the settlers here, who will now be able to buy locally. Miss McKinnon 'eft for Auckland cn Tuesday. Mr Jamieson intends falling some 60 or 70 acres of bush this season. During the recent fine weather, the roads have shown great improvement. TAUPIRI. Own CorrespondentA very successful concert promoted by the local branch of the National Reserve was held in the Hail on Friday, July 30th. There was a good attendance and the programme was thoroughly enjoyed by those present. Altogether a sum of about £9 was realised which is to be forwarded to the Wounded Soldiers’ Fund. It is the intention of the Executive Committee of the Reserve to hold some form of entertainment at least once a month. Many of the dairy farmers are again commencing to supply cream to the central factory and everything points to a successful season. We Jare still anxiously awaiting the Government Estimates in order to see the realization of our efforts to obtain a much needed Post-Office in Taupiri. The challenge match for the Draffin Cup, Blunily v. Taupiri is to he played on the local ground on Saturdays August 7th, when a fast and close game is expected.
