Fruitgrowers are likely to be granted an extra .three-pence a -case on the average for their apples and pears during the coming season under the (jovenimpnjt’g marketing schpjne) according to information gained after a meeting of Hawkes Pay growers’ held iii camera to digeuss the Government's proposals. It is understood the proposals have yet' to ra> ceive the Cabinet’s, approval. _ It is believed the Minister, of Marketing. the Hon. W. Nash, has put forward proposals to growers for aii average payment of os 3d & case fpr pip fruit, against 5s last season, growers who were interviewed agreed that- if they are paid something more than they/were for last season’s fruit, they must <hjs satisfied in view of the fact that there has been no advance qi the prices being paid for meat and dairy produce. It is claimed; hovvr ever, that some further assistance could be given the industry if an overall reduction in costs could be brought about. The general feeling was that a marked improvement in this directing could be effected by attention to .id-: ministrative costs.
