Communists attempted to cause a disturbance in Glasgow at a meeting addressed by Rt. Hon. Ernest Bevin, Minister of Labour, in a similar way to the disturbance earlier attempted in Edinburgh at his meeting under the auspices of the Scottish Trade Union Congress, Avhen there were interruptions, and the Minister halted to comment on the part which, he declared, had been allotted to the Communists to prepare the way for Hitler’s peace offer. On this occasion, Mr Bevin was speaking to a meeting of four thousand trade unionists in Glasgow, but the Communists were ejected by the stewards. He added: Some of the Reds are just unfortunate tools. The Government must face this issue as a matter of Avar strategy, and it must teach Russia that this method of carrying on foreign policy does not pay here. “I shall not say anything derogatory to<><.a,„ great State,,,,-iubut this: using of the citizens of other countries is not the wisest policy. I shall not alloAV a small and unrepresentative minority to become a problem.”
