That Luhitseh is the master of comedy in all-its various phases, whether of satire as he so ably demonstrated with his direction of. Greta Garbo in “Ninotclikay” or of human, • gentle humour in. the everyday lives of everyday people, lias been proven for ‘all to see in this new picture. It, is-a pleasure to see Miss Sullavan back on. the screen again, and this most charming and talented of actresses is perfectly teamed with Stewart who makes the most of another fine acting opportunity to compare with his great performance in “Mr Smith Goes to Washington.” They are assistants in a little Budapest leather goods and novelty shop,-•'••both seeking romance. They look for it outside of their own small world, quarreling constantly, and then discover ’that they are quarreling because they are in love. Sharings the plaudits with the stars is a flawless cast.' Fra : nk Morgan never has'appeared to hotter advantage than i» the role of the 1 shop ownjfi“ Joseph Schildkraut is thoroughly dislike able as the rascally assistant who has an affair with the wife of his kindly boss; Felix Bfessart, who ! provided ‘so many laughs in 'the role of the lanky Russian commissar Jri “Ninotclika”, iV the timid assistant, afraid of tile boss, the'butcher'fin'd tlip doctor. “The Shop Around the Corner” is a. pleasant do parture from the usual film epic. Tt i as real as life, flavoured with honest truth. As the likeable employer and hi; interesting employees move in and om of the picture, they gi’-’c it life, warmth suspense, comedy and romance, whirl makes for entertainment at its best.
