CHARGE OK INTOXICATION (Per Press Association—Copyright). CHRISTCHRCH, September 24. Douglas Lionel Hooker, aged 20, was fined £l2, in default 30 days’ imprisonment for having been intoxicated while m charge of a motor-car. He was declared unfit to hold a license for two years. On two additional charges of having no driver’s license and no warrant of fitness, lie was ordered to pay costs. Sub-Inspector E.T.C. Turner said that Hooker was certified as unfit to drive a car after a collision in which he was concerned, in Seaview Road. Mr H. S. Clarke said that Hooker bad had influenza and bad bad a whisky and some beers beforehand. CHILDREN FOR NEW ZEALAND AUCKLAND, September 23.

Recent dispatches received by the Government indicated no variation in the decision of the Brititsh authorities to send a number of children to .New Zealand, said the Minister for Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry) to-night. Very complete arrangements had been made for the reception land satisfactory placing of any who were sent to the Dominion, he added. Nomination of children by relatives in New Zealand were still being received, as were offers to take any child allotted. Mr Pary said the sympathy and patriotism that New Zealand mothers had extended to the mothers of England was particularly touching and was warmly appreciated.
