He was almost continually engaged from'August 28 to September 2 against large enemy raids over Kent. He destroyed eight, whereof five were brought down in three successful engagements in one. day. ‘ ; Herrick during the interception ol a patrol on September 4, destroyed two planes, succeeding in closing up within thirty yards of the second which fell in pieces under his fire. The' latter is a soii of Mr E. J. Herrick Hastings, and is aged nineteen. He was educated at Wanganui Collegiate School, where lie matriculated,- and lie left to enter the R.A.F. College, Cramvell. as cadet. in the middle of last year.
