BEAUTIFYING

Once again, the time for the judging of the Turner Cup contest is approaching, and with the good weather at- present being experienced, the entries should he more numerous than ever before. During the winter months several householders were busy working on the roadside - frontages and these are now looking very well and add considerably to the tidiness of the home and garden. Have you cut down the growth in front of your residence? It might look like being a big job, but once you have made up your mind to do it, you will wonder why it hadn’t been done before, and the upkeep is inconsiderable, just a trim up with the lawn mower once a week. You will be pleased with your effort, and you will inspire the Beautifying Association to further their efforts, find 'you will he helping to make Hokitika the neat and tidy 'town some people visualise. Make up your mind and set to “work this week end.

To date there is 'not one complete block of residents with roadside lawn 9. This is a disappointment to the Association. Moreover, there are several blocks with only one or two yet to he tidied up. Follow the lead-of Uour neighbour and complete that line of roadside lawns. We again appeal to the school children to refrain from damaging in any way the outside lawns; stones thrown in them are a hindrance to the gardener and damage iawnmowers. It is pleasing to note, also, that no complaints have been recently received about- cattle being driven over the J/iwns. Now turn to the inside of the fence. Trim up those edges and keep the paths weeded. A coat of paint may be needed on your fence to set off the lovely flower garden. It is anticipated that the judging for the' Turner Cup competition will take place during September. All citizens interested in the work of the Beautifying Association are- cordially incited to attend. A meeting of the Association will he held on Monday 16th September in the County Chambers at 8 p.m.
