WELLINGTON, July I\. On returning this week from a visit to Australia, the Rev. Mother Cecilia, head of the Order of the Sisters of Compassion, said that it was intended to extend the fouridatiohs of the order to Broken Hill next year aiid to Brisbane iii' 1942. This is the first occasion on which a foundation has been made of an order originating in New Zealand.
The order was established by the late Rev. Mother Mary Joseph Aubert at Jerusalem, Wanganui River, at the request of Archbishop Redwood in 1883, and has been carried on there up to the present day. “Many members of the hierarchy, who visited Wellington for the Eucharistic Conugress in February, were interested in the work we are doing for the poor , and suffering,” said the Rev. Mother Cecilia. “Among these were Bishop Fox, of Wilcannia-Forbes, and Archbishop Duliig, of Brisbane, both of whom invited us to. visit Australia and see for ourselves the need for foundations of Sisters of Compassion there.
■ “The order commenced obscurely in Jerusalem, and Broken Hill has been selected as the starting point in Australia because of its comparative obscurity, but our objective will be the endeavour to commence in Brisbane some time in - 1942, long before which time we hope that the war will is over. Indeed, we have already been,, encouraged to do so by help in certain directions.”
