Twenty trees were felled and secured cabled together across the channel to divert the current during floods from the scat of erosion, and collect deposits of shingle that wil. eventually raise the bed of the overflow channel and protect the bank in this locality. Arrangements have been made with the Public Works Department, for thtliire -of a D.B Bulldozer to complete the stop bank across the overflow channel above Dalzicl’s access road at Tipper lvokatahi. The .work of .reconstructing three chains of stone wall, faced with a continuous mattress of manuka and wire, and large stone and wire aprons at tinlower end of the main Camel Back Protection wall at Koiterangi has been completed. Material! used jwas ■ >LiO tons of stone, 8 loads of manuka and 71 12” x 8” wire nets'. A 40 feet breach in the lower protection wall behind Ritchie’s property at Uvoiterangi is being attended to with local labour.

The contract let to local labour for improvements along 10 chains of Woolhouse Road between the State Highway and Wilson’s has been completed. Timber has been ordered for repairs to the decking, handrails and strengthening the first span of the bridge on the south hank of Donnelly’s Creek bridge below Ross, Arrangements have been made for No. 13 Scheme labour to construct a timber and stoiio groyne from the south bank of Donnelly’s Creek to prevent further erosion of road reserve and improve the crossing through the creek. Overhanging scrub lias been cut back and general surface repairs attented to throughout Redmond’s Road. The power grader operated along ten chains of Granite Greek Road leading to El cock’s property at Fergusons.

General •.surface repairs and drainage approvements- were carried out along the southern section of Waitaha South Rank road with local labour. General maintenance work has been attended to throughout the Harihari and Wataroa districts. The power grader completed operations throughout the Harihari district. Many roads were scarified and re-graded. and rough sections will be top-dressed with fine gravel as soon as the local truck is available. Maintenance metal has been delivered along Wanganui Flat, Haddock’s and Robertson Road. One set of 12 inch concrete pipes have boon put in oir Robinson’s Road and one set of 8 inch concrete pipes on Haddock’s Road.

In the Wataroa District one set of 12 noli, and one set of 8 inch concrete pipes have been put in on Gunn Road to improve drainage. Five 8 inch con•rete pipes were also put in across the

'-"■fonth wiving access to the Wataroa School. Two sets of 24 inch, and one or 12 inch concrete pipe culverts ire being put in on Gibbs access road dong Docherty’s Creek. ’The local County truck patch metalled Richardson’s, Butler’s, Graham’s and Loan Block Roads.

The horse grader has been re-con-ditioned and. will be sent down for use n the Harihari and Wataroa districts. Repairs have been carried out along die Three Mile track at Okarito with local labour.
