PETROL FIRE
A BIG BLAZE
AT VACUUM’S COY’S. DEPOT.
(Australian Press Association). (Received this day at 11.50 a.m.) MELBOURNE, March 21. In one of the most spectacular fires seen in Melbourne for years, thousands of gallons cf petrol,. kerosene, crude oil, and lubricating oil at the Oil Company's depot at JSpotswood Railway . Siding, near tho jnouth of the Yarra, were lost late last night. Sabotage is suspected. Over 200 explosions were heard during the fire. Hundreds of police and military guards threw a cordon around the depot, and soldiers with fixed bayonets held back a crowd estimated at 20,000, because of tho danger of flames spreading to tho huge main containers. The fuel destroyed was housed in galvanised iron sheds.
