SECOND ECHELON
ENLISTMENTS AT GREYMOUTH. With about 30 men yet- to be medically examined, .and 57 already sent to camp, the AYest Coast quota for the Second Echelon still requires at least 30 men before it is filled. The temporary cessation of the intensive recruiting campaign in Greymouth has not resulted in a drop in enlistments, however, for ’ another eleven men have now offered their services, bringing the total effective enlistments in'Greymouth to 381. With 17 men whose enlistments have been cancelled owing to various causes, actual enlistments have now reached 398, ■which can he regarded as most satisfactory. A feature of yesterday’s enlistments was that four of the eleven men who offered their services were residents of Cobden. In the First Echelon Cobden had 13 representatives, whilst 3 men are in camp with the Second Echelon, and several others are awaiting medical examination. For an area as small as Cobden, the number of enlistments is exceptionally high, and proportionately few areas in New Zealand can show more recruits. • The Mtest enlistments included: — Gordon Thomas Davidson, of Hokitika; and Charles Nve Grovcott, of Ruatapu. . •
