FUNCTION AT HOKITIKA. . . SISTER GILLESPIE HONOURED. A farewell social was tendered .to Sister (xillespie, by the Hokitika, Ross and Ruatapu Sub-Centres of the. Red. Cross Society, at the ; Soldiers’ ; Hall, Hokitika, on Wednesday evening.... Tho Mayor (Mr G. A. Perry) presided oyer a gathering of about one hundred people. ; ' ' '*{ Apologies for absence were received from Dr. Childs, Dr. and Mrs Corban, and Mrs Bi. L. Wilson. ; A very fine programme was arranged and each item was encored, after which a presentation of a silver tea service was made to Sister Grlespie. Complementary references to Sister Gillespie’s services to the Red Cross' Society were . made by the Mayor, Mr G. A. Perry, Mr P. R. Whit-ford' (chairman of the Hokitika Red Cross), Mrs Loney *(secretary Ross Red Cross), Mr A. G. Armstrong (secretary Hokitika Red Cross), Miss H. Perry (St. John Ambulance Association), Mr H. W. R. Sweney and Dr. B. L. Wilson. Mrs G. A. Perry made the presentation. Sister Gillespie feelingly replied to the kind remarks of the various speakers, and expressed her appreciation of the handsome present she had received. The following items were contributed during the evening: St. Mary’s orchestra, Mrs Harrison (song), Mrs B. King (song). Mr A. Perrv (song), Mrs Jordan and Miss Daly (pianoforte duet). Mrs Hughes and Miss Rhodes (duet), Mr and Mrs A- F>. Perry (duet), Mesdames Paterson and Bassett (playette), Miss Giese and Miss Daly were the accompanists. ■ ■~ v ;
