METHODISM

DISTRICT SYNOD MEETS. The ministerial session of the Methodist District Sj r nod opened this morning in the Methodist Sunday School Hall. The chairman of the Nelson and West Coast Synodal district, Rev. J. D. McArthur, of Blenheim, presided over the' session and welcomed the •memberof the Synod. Those present were Rev. "W. Rowe (Nelson), Rev. Moses Ayrton (Richmond), Rev. H. V. Utting (Motueka), Rev. T. Carr (Blenheim);' Rev. C. H. .Kendon (Westport), Rev. L. T. Nonveil (Reefton), Rev. A. A. Benslev (Creymouth), .Rev. L. Gordon Han.ua (Hokitika)! , Three Home Missionaries were also present, Messrs C. G. Brown (Havelock), G.' W. Crammond (Miirchi. son)’, and N. R. Hooper (Wakefield). The main business of the morning session was the examination of Rev. L T. Norwell in his probationary ,woik and the examination of two candidates offering for the ministry. Mr Norwell was recommended to be passed in his probationary year. Mr C. G. Brown was recommended to the Conference, in February next, as a candidate for the ministry. As this stage the Synod adjourned for lunch. The ministerial session will continuethis afternoon and there will be a public welcome accorded the visitors this evening The Mayor will extend a civic greeting and (here will he choral items and two short addresses.
