RATES OF PAY

FOR TERRITORIAL FORCES

WELLINGTON, September 7

•The Government has mobilised certain members of the Territorial Force of Class I[ of the National Military Reserve for coast defence, and the guarding of vital points.

The Defence Minister announces the rates of pay and allowances fixed for these troops, which will apply also to any other force that may be organised for service. Daily rates of pay for private, gunner, etc., V/-; lance bombardier and lance corporal 7/6; bombardier and corporal 8/-; sergeant 8/6 ; C.Q.M.S. and staff sergeant 9/-; warrant officer and squadron battery of company S.M. 10/-; warrant officer and regt. and staff Q.M.S. and Q.M.S. art 10/-; warrant officer, regt. S.M., etc. 11/-; second lieutenant 13/-; lieutenant 14/-; captain 10/-; major 18/-; lieutenantcolonel 21/-. colonel 25/-. These rates will not apply to the regular military forces. Civil servants called up or enlisted for service will be granted leave of absence without pay, and the amount of their superannuation contributions, while serving, will be paid by the Government. Dependents’ allowance will be: On account of wife or guardian or motherless child or children under 16, 3/-; on account of each dependent- child under 16, up to a limit of five children, 1/6; on account of a widowed mother dependent on the soldier, 1/6. Privates and lance corporals carrying cut certain special duties will receive an extra 1/- per day. In the ease of men required to act as cook, 2/6 per day extra, wlitaever the man’s rank.

Camp allowances are: Colonel 5/-; lieut-col. 5/-; major 4/-; other commissioned ranks and members of the nursing service, 3/-; warrant officers and non-commissioned officers above the rank of sergeant, 1/6.

Officers and men alike will he required to allot portion of their pay for the benefit of their dependents. The minimum's are: Single men. 14/per week; married without children £2; with one child £2/15/-; with two £3; 10/-. with three £4.

Nurses in military hospitals: Matron 15/- per day; charge, sister 13/-; sister 11/-; staff nurses 9/-. Nurses’ camp allowance, 3/-. per day.
