MEAT PRICES
SHORTAGE OF SUPPLIES. (Per Press Association'—Copyright). WELLINGTON, Sept. 7. : Certain supplies of meat awaiting shipment to the United Kingdom are to be released to the local muirket with a view to assisting families with their meat budget. A statement to this effect was made to-night by the Minister for Supply (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan). “Fat stock. —beef and mutton, both prime wether and prime ewe—for .local consumption are in short supply;, os is not unusual at this time of the year,” said the Minister. “With normal supplies short, it is unprofitable for butchers to sell at the existing retail prices. To meet the shortage it has been decided to release some supplies at present awaiting shipment to the United Kingdom, and with this addition the price of meat should remain at normal and reasonable levels.”
