THE CENTENNIAL
WESTLAND COUNCIL MEET
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6,
A meeting of the Westland Provincial Centennial Celebration Council was held at the Borough Chambers, Greymouth at 7.40 p.m. There were present: Messrs G. A. Perry (chairman), F. A. Kitchingham, J. Gilbert, J. Ryall, J. Mulcare, J. A Murdoch, H. Herring, J. Unwin, P. J. McLean, A. Clayton and D. J. Evans. Apologies, were made for Messrs K. May and A. H. McKane, and Dr McKay. The minutes of the previous meeting weijo'tead and confirmed, and the out ward correspondence approved. INWARD CORRESPONDENCE. From Centennial Branch, Wellington, supplying particulars of uniforms, built, ing etc., for celebrations. —Received and filed.
From same, asking to be advised ol the names of auditors of Centennial accounts’in the several districts. —Received.
From same, supplying particulars ol timber production in Grey and Westland Counties since 1920 (total last yeai 74,114,292). —Received with thanks. , From Dominion Court, Wellington asking to be supplied with particularof furniture required for the reception room.—Received and attended to
From same, supplying particulars oi the 'size of the Tower of Knowledge fos minerals and photographs.—Received;, and particulars of amendments report etl.
From E. R. Darracott, Kotnku, regarding a visit to the school to arrangi about an exhibit.—Received, socretar\ to!assist on ! Saturday, with P. J. Me Lean.
From W. A. Service, Canterbury Education Board, agreeing to a,ct iconjunction with the Scholarship Com mittee. —Received with than Ks.
From L. A. Inkster, Greymouth, ac cepting position of judge along wit Dr McKay, for the photographic com petition. —Received with thanks, i was reported 51 photos had been roceiv ed. , From P. J. McLean, Greymouth, forwarding particulars of correspondent* with Stewart and White, photograph crs.—Received, and further enquiry t* be made.
From Inaugahua County Council, re plying in respect to audit arrange ments. —Received.
From H. Herring, outlining scheme for display of timbers, and kindly offer ing to sponsor same. Received wit-1 thanks, secretary to advise the authorities of the proposal. GENERAL. The secretary submitted particulars of finance. The receipts since last meeting were £215 16s 3d, and tbe paymeni £32 11s 9d. The scholarship funds in hand £555 7s 6el with a further £3lO ’2s 6d in sight. Further funds to come in for the general account were estimated .at £668. The receipts in sight for “Old 'West land” were satisfactory, with further amounts to come.
A statement of estimated liabilitie was also submitted, including expense: in connection with the Westland Court .. The secretary amplified the figures
suggesting the limit considered availaide. It was decided to offer £25 to the Travel Association towards costs of booking, and it was resolved Mr Evans proceed to V\ ellmgton to arrange the final details of the display, and the fittings for the reception room etc. Arrangements are also to be finalised regarding caretaking, insurance etc. A further meeting will be held subsequent to the secretary’s return. It was reported the models had gone forward, and Mr G. Miller, M.8.E., was now in Wellington, attending to the assembly of the State Coal Mine model, which was considered a very valuable exhibit.
