WOMEN’S INSTITUTE:
HOKITIKA MEETING. The September meeting of the Hokitika Women’s Institute was held in the Soldiers’ Hal Toil Monday evening, Mrs J' Preston presiding over a fair attendance. The meeting opened with the Institute ode. Business' matters were dealt with. Mbs Cameron and Miss J. Steyent son gave aii instructive gardening talk. A clever .marionette show wag staged by Mesdames Millen, Burrows, Graham, and A§hjey. \ ’IVIrs Wilson gave a talk on her tour ahrdadv'telling of 'many places of interest visited. She also explained the A.R.P. measures taken in Scotland during the'national crisis last. September. She spoke of how these measures were carried out' ; at the-timef - arid also right up till when they returned to New Zealand making them feel they are well prepared for the present crisis. Competition results were:—Best bloom : Mrs Ashley 1, Mrs Parkhill 2, Mrs Millen 3. Vase of flowers: Mrs Ashley 1, Mrs Parkhill 2, Mrs J. Breston 3. The flowers were later sent to the Westland Hospital. The hostesses supplied a bountiful supper. Singing of the National Anthem brought the evening to a close.
